The Challenge
Our hero, Matt Hanson, and his team at the State of Arizona faced what many state governments have had to grapple with during the pandemic: quickly and effectively distributing funding to other local entities who desperately need funding while ensuring every dollar is accounted for. Not to mention more scrutiny dedicated to compliance and administrative measures. Unfortunately, many of Arizona’s state agencies had been operating on manual paper-based processes, significantly delaying the distribution of critical funding.
The Solution
In an effort to expedite the disbursement of COVID-19-related funding across the state, Matt and his team at the Governor’s Office launched the Arizona Public Assistance Pay Program through eCivis. This system accelerated the delivery of public assistance to local governments, tribal communities, schools, nonprofit organizations, and houses of worship for FEMA-eligible projects related to COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.
The program is managed by heroes at the Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA) and centralizes the disbursement and tracking of funding from FEMA’s Category B Public Assistance Program to ensure the continued delivery of critical services to Arizonans.
The Results
By digitizing the Public Assistance Pay Program, our hero, Matt and his team were able to expedite the timeline of reviewing and reimbursing grants from months to as little as five business days.
