The House of Representatives recently passed three of the twelve FY 2012 spending bills: Agriculture, Homeland Security, and Military Construction. Senate appropriators began work on the Senate’s version of FY 2012 spending bills, unveiling the Military Construction/ Veterans Affairs (VA) Appropriations bill. There were a number of amendments adopted during the consideration of these bills. For specific details, refer to the TFG Report.
FEMA continues its workshops for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and the Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Hiring Grant programs throughout July. It is expected that FEMA will open the AFG competition in late July, while SAFER is expected to begin late October/November. AFG provides cost-share support for programs to increase fire safety, including equipment, vehicles, training, and special programs. SAFER funds the recruitment and/or hiring of additional fire safety personnel. Preliminary AFG program information is available through eCivis Grants Network as US1280A and US1280B.
