Max D. Hopper

Chairman SABRE Group/Founder Max D. Hopper Associates, Inc.

Max, a seasoned executive in the field of electronic commerce, brings more than 45 years of technical and business expertise to the eCivis Board of Directors. As eCivis continues to advance its software platforms and provide additional resources for grants research and management, Max’s insight into information technology will play an instrumental role in helping to move the company’s goals forward.

One of Max’s most notable roles as an expert in information technology was with the SABRE Group, a unit of AMR Corporation, where he served as chairman from 1993-1995. The SABRE Group is known as a key provider of distribution and technology solutions to the travel industry through its companies: Travelocity, SABRE Airline Solutions, and SABRE Travel Network. Max was influential in creating SABRE Travel Information Network, the pioneering company providing electronic commerce and information services to the travel industry.

Max’s highly decorated professional accomplishments include his role as executive vice president of Bank of America from 1982-1985, where he was positioned as the chief information officer and was key in leading reengineering efforts in the systems and operations areas. Max also served as senior vice president of IS to American Airlines, a subsidiary of the AMR Corporation, where he successfully automated travel agencies and connected the operational side of the airline with a common information system, and, as a result, was dubbed the travel industry’s “father of automation.”

In 1995, after retiring from a 20-year tenure at AMR Corporation, Max founded the Max D. Hopper Associates, Inc. firm that specializes in creating benefits and opportunities from the strategic use of advanced information technologies through electronic commerce, multimedia, and data warehousing.

In 1992 Max was recognized by Computerworld as one of the top 25 who made the greatest contributions in the field of information sciences, and in 1999 CIO Magazine noted him as one of the 12 most influential information technology executives of the decade. Max was also the recipient of the 2000 Leadership Award for Collaborative Innovation at the Computerworld Honors Program.

Max received his B.A. in mathematics and his master’s degree in management sciences from the University of Houston.
